Alloys scuff. It’s what they do. The question is whether yours needs a scuff repair, a full refurbishment or a new wheel. We look, then we tell you.

What we repair

Scrapes along the rim edge from clipping a kerb while parking. The most common wheel fault, and usually cosmetic.
Deeper chunks taken out of the rim edge. We fill and machine them smooth before refinishing.
Marks on the wheel face from debris, careless tyre changes and tight car parks.
White or grey pitting, and lacquer lifting away. Road salt and moisture get under the finish and spread. Painting over the top doesn’t stop it. We strip the area back, treat it and refinish.

Cosmetic or structural?

Cosmetic damage is about looks. Structural damage is about safety. A wheel carries the weight of your car and takes every bump. We won’t refinish a wheel that shouldn’t go back on the road, and we’ll say so plainly.

Repair or replace?

For most cosmetic damage, repair costs less than a new manufacturer wheel, and you keep a matched set. Replace when the damage is structural, when a wheel’s badly bent, or when the repair would cost nearly as much as a new one. We’ll give you both figures if it’s close.

Scuffed wheels put buyers off before they’ve looked at the engine. If you’re selling, sort them first.

How we repair an alloy wheel

We inspect the wheel

We check for cracks and bends first. If it fails that check, we stop and tell you.

We take the tyre off

[CONFIRM: For anything beyond a light scuff.] You can't refinish a wheel properly with rubber on it.

We strip and clean

Old paint and lacquer come off the damaged area. Corrosion gets treated, not covered.

We fill and machine

Scrapes and gouges are filled and sanded, or machined out, until the surface is true.

We prime, colour and lacquer

Then the finish cures.

We refit the tyre

Balance the wheel and hand it back. [CONFIRM: including TPMS sensor handling.]

Colour matching

Most alloys are silver, and silver comes in dozens of shades. We match against [CONFIRM: your car’s paint code, a sample of your existing finish, or a scanner]. Then we check the result in daylight against the other three wheels.

Want a different colour, or a full new finish? See alloy wheel refurbishment or powder coating.

How long does it take?

Lacquer needs time to cure, so the finish sets the pace, not the repair.

Job Typical time
One lightly scuffed wheel Same day to 1 day
Deep kerb damage or corrosion, per wheel 1 to 2 days
A set of four 2 to 3 days
We give you a date at the estimate and tell you if it moves.

How much does alloy wheel repair cost in Glasgow?

Price depends on wheel size, how deep the damage goes and the finish on the wheel. These are starting points, per wheel.

Ask what a quote includes. Colour matching, lacquer and balancing should be in it. If one quote comes in far below the rest, ask about preparation. That’s where cheap wheel repairs fail first.

Why mobile repair doesn't always work

Mobile repairs suit light cosmetic damage. Cracks, buckles and diamond cut faces need a workshop. So do deep gouges and corrosion, where the tyre has to come off and the finish has to cure properly. If someone offers to fix any wheel at your door, ask what they’ll do about the tyre.

Stop kerb damage before it starts

Most kerb damage happens when you park. Leave a gap, and tilt your passenger mirror down when you reverse in. Ask your tyre fitter about rim protector strips, because some tyres have them. Wash the wheels regularly in winter. Road salt and brake dust attack the lacquer.
