Warning light on? Brakes grinding? Failed your MOT and the clock’s running? Start here.

What we repair

Interim, full and major services, matched to your mileage and your car’s schedule.
We read the fault codes, then find what’s causing them. A code is where the search starts.
Pads, discs, fluid and the noises that come before all three.
Bring the failure sheet. We fix what’s listed and tell you what to take back to the test centre.
Engine work, repairs and maintenance on all vehicle makes. Describe the problem on the phone and we’ll tell you whether we can take it.

Which service does your car need?

Most cars need a service every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Drivers who cover high mileage, or mostly do short runs and stop-start traffic, are better with an interim service in between. Your handbook has the manufacturer’s schedule. We follow it.
Service Who it suits Typical interval
Interim High-mileage drivers, or anyone wanting a check between annual services Every 6 months or 6,000 miles
Full Most cars, most drivers Every 12 months or 12,000 miles
Major Cars due the deeper checks and extra replacements Every 24 months or 24,000 miles
Don’t pay for a major service because a garage says so. Ask what’s included, then check it against the schedule.

What that warning light or noise means

A warning light isn’t an appointment to put off. This table is a guide, not a diagnosis, and when in doubt, treat the light as serious.
What you notice Likely area What to do
Red brake warning light, or a soft brake pedal Braking system Stop driving. Arrange recovery
Red oil pressure warning light Engine oil Stop as soon as it’s safe. Don’t restart
Steady amber engine light Engine management Drive gently and book in this week
Flashing engine light Possible misfire Slow down and get it checked the same day
Squealing when you brake Brake pads Book within days
Grinding when you brake Pads worn through Book now. It costs more the longer you wait
Car pulls to one side Tracking, tyres, brakes or suspension Book this week
Knocking over bumps Suspension Book soon

Failed your MOT? Here's what happens next.

You have 10 working days from the failure to get the car back for a partial retest. That test covers only what failed. Miss the window and you pay for a full test again.

Where the repairs happen changes the fee:

  • Repaired at the test centre and retested within the 10 days: the partial retest can be free.
  • Taken elsewhere for repair, then returned within the 10 days: a reduced partial fee may apply.
  • Returned by the end of the next working day, for listed quick items: free. That list covers things like lamps, mirrors, wipers and the seatbelt itself.
Then there’s the question everyone asks. Can I drive it? A dangerous defect means the car shouldn’t move. Get it recovered. A major-only fail, with your previous MOT still valid, can be driven while it’s roadworthy. If the old MOT has expired, you can drive only to a pre-booked retest or straight to a garage to fix the listed faults. Any other journey is a risk you don’t need.

What we do. Bring the failure sheet or the online result. We write an estimate for each listed defect, repair what you approve, and tell you exactly what to take back to the test centre. We don’t carry out the retest. The test centre does. Ask about the advisories too. They passed, but they’re wearing.

What a diagnostic check involves

A scan tool reads the fault codes stored in your car’s computer. That tells us where to look. It doesn’t tell us what’s broken.

A code for a misfire might point to a spark plug, a coil, a fuel injector or a sensor. So the second half of the job is testing. We check the likely causes in order, confirm the fault, then give you a written estimate for the repair.

How much do servicing and repairs cost in Glasgow?

Price depends on your car’s age, engine size and the parts it needs. These are starting points. You get a written estimate before we start, and a phone call before we do anything extra.

Body and mechanical at one address

Some faults come with a knock. Steering that pulls after a kerb hit. A suspension noise after a pothole on Saracen Street. The bodyshop and the mechanic work from the same address, so one visit covers both. See accident repair for the body side, or tyres and wheels if the tyres need attention.
