Alloy Wheel Refurbishment

Prime Automotive Solutions refurbishes alloy wheels at 29 Finlas Street, Glasgow G22 5DU. We strip the old finish, repair the damage, then refinish each wheel in paint and lacquer or powder coating. The price includes [CONFIRM: taking the tyres off and refitting them, new valves and balancing]. From £[] per wheel and £[] for a set of four, in [CONFIRM: time]. Call 07917 062770.

Alloys don’t wear out. Their finish does. Four tired wheels can make a good car look neglected. Refurbishing them usually costs less than replacing them, and you keep the wheels your car came with.

What you get

A refurbishment takes each wheel back to bare alloy, fixes the damage, and applies a fresh finish. That covers kerb marks, scuffs, peeling lacquer, corrosion and years of baked-on brake dust. It’s a bigger job than a scuff repair. If only one wheel is marked, see alloy wheel repair.

Refurbish, replace or leave alone?

Situation Usually the best answer
Kerb marks on one or two wheels Repair those, or refurbish the set so all four match
Peeling lacquer or corrosion on all four Refurbish the set
Dull, stained wheels with no damage Refurbish, or leave them if they don’t bother you
You want a different colour Colour change, usually by powder coating
A crack, or a bend that causes vibration We assess it. Often a replacement. See alloy wheel repair
Quote close to the price of a new wheel Replace
New alloys for some cars cost hundreds of pounds a wheel. Check the price of a new wheel for your car before you decide, then set it beside our set price. If your wheel design is from an old model and isn’t sold any more, refurbishment may be your only route.

How we refurbish a set of alloys

  1. We inspect the wheels. We check for cracks and bends first. If one fails, we stop and tell you.
  2. We take the wheels off and the tyres off them. You can’t refinish a wheel properly with rubber on it.
  3. We strip the old finish. Paint, lacquer and corrosion come off. Corrosion gets removed, not covered.
  4. We repair the damage. Scrapes and gouges are filled and sanded, or machined, until the surface is true.
  5. We prime, colour and lacquer, or powder coat. Then each wheel cures.
  6. We refit the tyres, fit new valves and balance every wheel. [CONFIRM]
  7. We check the set in daylight. All four wheels should look like they belong together.

How long will your car be without its wheels?

Curing sets the pace. We give you a date at the estimate and tell you if it moves.
Job Typical time
One wheel [CONFIRM: same day to 1 day]
A set of four [CONFIRM: 2 to 4 days]
Diamond cut wheels [CONFIRM: add 1 to 2 days]
You’ll need something to drive on. The options are to leave the car with us for the duration, or [CONFIRM: to have the set done in stages, two wheels at a time]. [CONFIRM: We can also lend wheels.] Tell us on the phone what suits.

While the tyres are off

Bare wheels are the cheapest moment to change tyres. If the tread is near 3mm, or the rubber is cracked, fit new ones now and pay for one balance instead of two. See tyre fitting.

Changing colour

Same silver as before, or something new. We match factory colours [CONFIRM: method], or you choose from [CONFIRM: colour range] in gloss, satin or matt. Ask to see a sample before you decide. Colour on a screen lies. Dark wheels show brake dust more than silver.

How much does alloy wheel refurbishment cost in Glasgow?

Price depends on wheel size, the finish and how much damage needs putting right. These are starting points.
Wheel size One wheel Set of four
Up to 18 inch £[__] £[__]
19 to 20 inch £[__] £[__]
21 inch and over £[__] £[__]
Powder coating and diamond cut cost more than standard paint and lacquer. Deep corrosion and heavy kerb damage add prep time. A set is priced lower per wheel than four single jobs, because the setup gets spread across all four. If one quote comes in far below the rest, ask what it includes, and whether VAT is on top.

Our warranty

Refurbishments done at Finlas Street carry a written warranty of [CONFIRM: months]. Ask for the terms before you say yes to any wheel specialist. That includes us.
